Once ag
ain, the SNP Rotary held a successful blood drive through the auspices of the Red Cross.
As we have for many years, Rotary volunteers gathered on MLK Day at Christ Church to assist with the blood drive. While the weather was bad and probably kept the count below what we hoped for, we still collected forty-one units and, of particular note, six units were from power donors, an unusually high number. A Power Red donation collects two units of red blood cells in a single sitting. Red blood cells are the most frequently transfused blood component, used for trauma victims, surgery patients, and people with chronic anemia or sickle cell disease.
A special thank you to our ten volunteers who spent their afternoon assisting: Stacy Grimaldi, Donna Patel, Laurel Patel, Steve LaFerriere, Francie Cho, Christine Hodde, Jackie Kondel, Jim Fleischmann, Melanie Cohn, and, as always, Joe Steiner.
