If it’s December, it’s holiday music time performed by the Summit high school music department and also the annual inter-club holiday luncheon sponsored by the SNP Rotary and the Summit Lions.  As it has been so often in the past, this year’s concert performed by the Chamber Orchestra and the Chamber Choir was another showcase for the wonderfully talented SHS students.  The Choir is led by Mrs. Mary-Lynn Rhodes and the orchestra, by Mrs. Neveno Bojovic.  Also in attendance were Scott Hough, superintendent of schools, Stacy Grimaldi, the SHS principal and Alison Caravano, fine arts department head.  The meeting was emceed by Rotary and Lions presidents, David Dietze and Peter Twill.  Our audience was comprised of roughly forty Lions, Rotarians and their guests.

The orchestra performed White Christmas and the Christmas Song.  This was followed by the Choir singing A Holly Jolly Christman, S’vivon (a traditional Hebrew song) and Silver Bells.  The orchestra then played In the Bleak of Midwinter featuring four solos and Hatikvah with a violin solo.  The choir followed with Silent Night, Angel Medley and I’ll be home for Christmas with a solo by Minjoon Kong.  The performance concluded with the orchestra offering four selections from the Nutcracker suite.

As always, the talent abounded, reflecting the excellent music program at SHS run by its most talented staff, and the audience loved it.

The Rotary wishes everyone a merry/happy, season whether you celebrate Christmas, Chanukah, Kwanza, Donghi, or just the winter solstice and a happy and safe and prosperous New Year.
