Today we had the pleasure of hearing from two of our newest Rotarians, Eugene Kim and Steve LaFerriere.

Eugene’s parents immigrated to the US in the 1970s from Korea.  He grew up in Bergen county, attended U. of Michigan, and got a master’s in chemistry at Stevens with the intent of going to law school to be a patent attorney.  He finished law school and clerked for chief justice Stuart Radner.  He subsequently joined a Newark law firm but had a “one-third life crisis” and decided he really didn’t want to practice corporate law and went solo for ten years.  Eugene is a long-suffering Mets fan and looks forward to participating in Rotary service projects.  In February, he joined Malissa Spurr’s law firm here in Summit and then, the SNP Rotary.

Our other newest member, Steve LaFerriere, is a certified financial planner with Merrill Lynch (Summit Office).  Steve is a devout Christian and the Rotary motto, Service Above Self, fits well with his desire to be of service to others.  He grew up in a military household and lived in many places, but the family ended up in NJ, and he ultimately graduated from Madison HS.  Steve has volunteered from an early age in various capacities, including in several foreign countries, is fluent in Spanish, and continues to volunteer in missions through his church.  He willingly agreed to chair our speakers’ program (no small task), and we look forward to his contributions to the Club.
